It’s so important for any team of people, chasing a common goal to be aligned. One common misconception of the word aligned, is that it means everyone should think, act, look, and speak the same way. Alignment and being the same are not the same thing. The members of a team are not going to be the same – and actually, I believe there is more value in difference than sameness, because the best teams have people who use their own strengths to fill in the cracks or weaknesses of others.
With that being said, while a team is not and cannot be the same, they must be aligned. All arrows have to be pointed at and flying towards a common purpose or goal. Through strong vision and healthy communication, a team can be aligned. If the vision gets blurry and communication tails off, the wheels fall out of alignment… and then you let go of the wheel for two seconds and the car starts to veer off the road. A team of people with a shared vision and purpose is a powerful thing!
