I just finished watching jeen-yuhs, the new Kanye West documentary on Netflix. I’m not a massive Kanye fan, but I found the documentary fascinating and enjoyed learning the story of his life. No matter how you feel about Kanye, you can’t deny his work ethic and his belief in himself, especially when no one else believed in him. I also loved learning about his mother, Donda, and the impact she had on his life.
When we don’t know someone, we tend to make them up in our head or make assumptions based off rumors. Sometimes an event happens, and we judge the way something was handled without having all the facts. I was certainly guilty of this with Kanye, and I think at times we do the same with God. We make assumptions from the stories we hear and how other people talk about God. Or occasionally we judge God based off how another person, who claims to know God, talks or acts.
jeen-yuhs reminded me that God didn’t leave us guessing – he released his own documentary. God sent his son Jesus to this earth so that we could actually know him and have a relationship with him. How amazing is that!? Jesus serves as the image of the invisible God, and Jesus opened a window for us into God’s heart. I read an article which said Kanye wanted to release the documentary to tell the world who he is by showing who he’s always been. Kanye was afraid of being misunderstood – so he aired a documentary to allow us to get to know him. God did the same with Jesus. God revealed who he’s always been by sending Jesus to show the world exactly who he is.
The more I read the Bible and learn who Jesus is, the more I know God. I’ve learned God loves me, and he loves you. Jesus is proof he always has. God, thank you for sending Jesus – jeen-yuhs idea.
