It’s crazy how easy it is to make excuses. And the thing is – most of us are pretty good at it. I know I am. It’s just easier than owning up to the fact that I messed up or wasn’t good enough. If I just had it this way… If this would have happened… If my boss just did this… If this guy was just better… If I lived in a different city… No one told me this… Someone else missed an assignment… The list goes on. Excuses often feel like they’re more controllable.
It truly take a conscious, daily effort to fight the urge to make excuses and to take ownership of your own life. It’s hard. But taking ownership is vital to leadership. Ownership will always preceed change and any success. NEVER make excuses or let anyone make them for you. You will get nowhere doing so.
